Pain Worse with Bending Forward
Do You Fit This Pattern?
You may have a "flexion-aggravated" pain pattern if:
- Sitting makes your back hurt (especially after 30 minutes or more)
- Bending forward increases your pain (putting on socks, picking something up from the floor)
- First thing in the morning, your back feels stiff and painful
- Lifting heavy objects triggers pain
- Coughing or sneezing sends a jolt through your back
- Standing up brings relief
This type of pain often involves the intervertebral discs — the cushions between your vertebrae. Discs have a natural tendency to bulge toward the back when you bend forward, which can press on sensitive structures.
