These exercises are supported by published clinical research:
- Long 2008: Improvement was reported when exercises were matched to the patient's directional preference. Mismatched exercises showed limited benefit.
- Lam 2018: A meta-analysis of 17 randomized controlled trials found that the McKenzie method was effective for chronic low back pain rehabilitation compared with other approaches.
- Halliday 2019: Treatment following McKenzie principles was associated with additional improvements in pain and disability scores compared with control interventions.
