Spinal Cord Stimulation (SCS)
When SCS May Be Considered
SCS is not appropriate for all chronic low back pain. It is generally considered when the following conditions are met:
| Condition | Details |
|---|---|
| Chronic low back pain lasting 6 months or longer | Short-term pain is not eligible |
| Conservative treatments have been tried adequately | Physical therapy, medications, psychological approaches, etc. |
| A spine surgeon has confirmed that surgery is not indicated | If a structural problem exists, surgical correction is considered first |
| No severe untreated mental health condition | A psychological evaluation is typically performed |
